History

The company was originally founded in 1980 as a means for Dave Zemek to put himself through college.

Following graduation from the University of Washington School of Building Construction, Dave Zemek spent 25 years working with Kiewit Construction Company.

At Kiewit, he held several management positions including Vice President, with responsibility for West Coast Operations. During this time, he was associated with many of the Puget Sound region’s major construction projects, such as the cut and cover tunnel structures and elevated bridge structures on Interstate 90 between Lake Washington and 1st Avenue, the Second Tacoma Narrows Bridge, 3rd Lake Washington Floating Bridge, Hood Canal Floating Bridge, the Whittier Tunnel Project in Whittier Alaska (AISC National Project of the Year), Safeco Field, and several design-build and design-assist projects in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, and Washington.

Zemek Construction Company restarted in 2010 and has successfully constructed over 60 bridges of all types between 2010 and 2024. We are currently constructing several additional bridges to be completed during 2025.
